The garden is coming along quite nicely. As you can see, most of the newspaper has been put on the blank spots of the garden to help prevent weeds.
This is our third year to do this and it definitely is a worthwhile endeavor.
I had told my parents that I was going to try to lay down one bale of straw each day until the garden was finished. Do you know what they did the next day?
They finished all of the garden with the exception of the back where I am still planting corn every two weeks. Talk about blessings overflowing! It was a complete surprise because I didn’t even know they were here.
On Thursday morning my children all helped me hoe weeds and lay down newspaper and straw in our potato patch. They were great helpers.
Early this coming week I am going to plant one more row of corn (I have been planting them every two weeks to extend our time of eating fresh sweet corn.). Once the corn comes up we will finish putting down newspaper and straw in that area of the garden.
We will probably still have to pull the occasional weed, but it shouldn’t be a weed-fest in our garden.
How is your garden growing this week?
