Sunday School Crafts: Joseph & the Coat of Many Colors

Today I wanted to share a craft my preschool Sunday school class made to go with the story of Joseph and the coat of many colors. We have been crafting through The Jesus Storybook Bible and this was the next story in the book.

I thought of making a puppet after seeing an idea on Prekinders. However, I changed the idea by using strips of construction paper instead of rainbow colored fabric. This made the craft even more hands-on.

I gave the children a choice of whether they wanted to glue the strips on in a pattern or if they wanted to cut them up to make a patchwork quilt effect. I think both ways are cute and the kids had a lot of fun with their puppets.

To make the puppets I pre-cut strips of colored construction paper the width of a paper sack by one inch. A paper cutter made the job much easier.

Then the children glued them, or cut them first and then glued them, to the front of a paper sack. A hand drawn mouth and wiggly eyes completed the puppets.

This was an easy craft that all of the kids enjoyed.
