We have had quite a bit of snow this winter with more expected this weekend. Rather than bemoan the snow we have been making the most of it.
Today I offered my children the option of doing three snow-themed activities and they had a lot of fun.
It isn’t often that I can get my kids, ages 2-14, to be interested in the same things and I relished every minute of it. 🙂
My oldest boy and youngest girl enjoyed making snow paintings using glue and salt. They used paintbrushes to paint a snowy scene and then sprinkled salt over the top, shaking off the excess.
At one point all of the kids were playing with the snow play dough I made. I simply used my original play dough recipe and, instead of food coloring, I added silver glitter.
My oldest daughter loved making coffee filter snowflakes and we now have seven hanging on the woodwork as you enter our kitchen.
Yes, it was a fun time that didn’t require any expensive gadgets or gizmos. Yay!
I decided that while I was on the topic of snow I would search the archives to find some more ideas to share with you. The activities below are all from this blog.
We have used cotton balls in a winter sensory bin for pretend snow play.
Coffee filters make great snowflakes. Also in this post is an idea for making snowflakes by painting with spools.
Check out how we made crystalized “snowflakes” using pipe cleaners.
Have you ever brought snow inside? My kids always have great fun playing with snow indoors.
When it isn’t too cold we love to play outside in the snow even more than playing with it inside.
Here is another post with snow ideas. There are also a few snow and snowman ideas in this post.
My son made a snowflake painting using painter’s tape.
I shared a snowman color matching activity that you can print for your child.
This cute snowman was made using recycled packing foam.
This felt snowman is lots of fun for little ones.
Finally, here are some of our favorite books about snow.
