My children and I recently finished reading through The Jesus Storybook Bible and I wanted to let you know what we thought of it.
My children are no strangers to the Bible or Bible storybooks. When we have read other Bible storybooks where the author has paraphrased the Bible, there is generally no continuity between the Old Testament and the New Testament.
What I noticed right away about The Jesus Storybook Bible is that each story ends with a sentence or two about how it relates to Jesus. This made stories I have read over and over even more real to me and my children. I think the author does a great job of linking the Old and New Testaments.
The drawings are engaging and cover each page. It isn’t like the pictures were added to the text on each page, but like the text was added to the pictures. My children loved looking at the pictures and studied everything they saw before I was allowed to turn the page.
My children range in age from nearly 13 down to 1. While they all listened as I read, the book was geared more to my 4 and 7 year olds. However, my 9 1/2 year old liked it too and especially loved the pictures since he has a very strong interest in drawing right now.
While not all of our favorite stories were in this book, I think it really is a great tool to help young children understand that God loves them so much that He sent His Son to rescue them.
Have you ever read The Jesus Storybook Bible to your children. If not, I definitely recommend reading it to them.
