I recently found a recipe I had written down back when I was in college a few years ago (OK, it was more than a few years ago.). It was called “fluffy cloud dough”. I decided to try it out with my 4 year old a couple of days ago but I didn’t think the name really fit. So, I changed it to “springy play dough”.
The dough was similar to play dough but was more elastic and springy than regular play dough. I did a little searching and found that some people have made something called “cloud dough” using just flour and baby oil. Maybe we will try that next. Anyway, I will share the recipe in case you want to give it a try.
To make this dough you will need 2 cups of flour, 1/3 cup of vegetable oil, 1/3 cup water and 5 drops of food coloring.
In a bowl, mix the flour and oil. You will have to use your hands which is really fun, too.
When you get it to this point it is probably like the cloud dough recipes I found when I did a Google search. Next time we may just stop at this point.
To make it more like play dough combine the water and food coloring and then add it to the flour/oil mixture.
Knead the dough really well and play with as you would regular play dough. Like I said earlier, this dough is more springy and elastic than some play dough recipes. It was definitely good exercise for my son’s hands.
I did notice that the bag I put this dough in is really oily. I am not sure if this will be a long lasting dough since it is a no-cook recipe. So far, it isn’t moldy, just oily.
