This morning I spent quite a bit of time and used a little elbow grease in order to clean my oven. I have to say that this is not a favorite task of mine and the inside of my oven is usually neglected with regards to getting cleaned on a regular basis. I am about to reveal the ugly truth of the matter to you.
Yikes! The oven looks worse in this picture than I realized. It was obviously time to give it a little attention.
I prefer to use natural cleaning products and therefore don’t own any oven cleaner. However, I didn’t go out and buy any for this job.
No, instead I made a paste of baking soda, a squirt of dish soap (I used original Dawn.), and a little water. I then spread it all over the inside of my oven.
I let the mixture sit for over an hour and then I gave it a good scrubbing with one of my homemade scratchers. A few spots needed a little steel wool, and some elbow grease.
I rinsed everything off and dried it. Here is the result of my efforts.
What a difference! It isn’t perfect, but I think it looks pretty good for a 15 year old oven.
I used the same mixture on my stove top and it looks great, too.
I even pulled out my oven drawer and cleaned the floor underneath. I am pleased with all of my efforts. If you would like to make your own homemade oven cleaner, that will work for other surfaces as well, here is the recipe.
Homemade Oven Cleaner
1/2 Cup Baking Soda
1 Squirt of Dish Soap
Water
Combine the baking soda and dish soap in a bowl. Add enough water to make a paste. Spread on the surface you wish to clean and allow to sit for at least 15 minutes. Scrub the surface. Wipe clean with a damp cloth.
How often do you clean your oven? I am resolved to do a better job of keeping mine clean now that I have seen how good it can look.
Tomorrow I will be cleaning my dishwasher and microwave.
