I don’t know what the weather is like where you live, but we have been having some beautiful weather. It almost feels like summer today instead of the last of winter.
My kids, especially my three boys, have loved playing outside. They are pretty good at coming up with things to do on their own, but I decided it might be fun to give them something more specific to play. So, I decided to make my own backyard obstacle course. I looked around our yard and barns for some supplies.

I found four pieces of concrete that were of varying size and used those for stepping stones. The boys had to be careful not to fall in the “hot lava”.

A sawhorse became a cave to go through to get to the next part of the obstacle course.

An old tire was a spinning wheel that the boys had to get off of at just the right time to get to the next part of the course.

Two old boards tested my boys’ balancing abilities.

Whew! They all completed their mission. 🙂
This backyard obstacle course kept my boys entertained for about 45 minutes. I timed them to see how quickly they could complete the course a few times.
Then, they tried to go as slow as they could which turned out to be harder than going quickly. Finally, I let them just have fun with it.

The boys decided to rearrange some of the elements and even tried different ways of using the objects.

They decided the tire was more fun while it was rolling. They ran it through the yard for awhile.
I had just walked to our breezeway to put my camera up when I heard, “Mom, come quick.” I grabbed my camera just in time to find my boys doing this with the tire.

They had worked for about 5 minutes to get the tire up the slide.

Then they let it go. Their old mom decided at that point that it was time to put the obstacle course away until another day. 🙂
Have you ever made a homemade obstacle course? What things did you use?
