Today we started our study of the letter “V”. It was nice to have all of my students here for the first time in a few weeks. Here are some of the highlights of our morning.
We started our morning by reading the book Zin! Zin! Zin! A Violin by Lloyd Moss. This book was full of rhymes and included ten instruments. We counted how many instruments were on each page which kept the children interested in the story.
After the story we made vases out of the letter “V” based on a tutorial by No Time For Flashcards.
The children first colored letter “V’s” I had printed from Itty Bitty Bookworms (at 80%). Then we cut them out and glued them to a violet piece of paper. They added green rectangle stems, leaves and flowers to the “V”. They were a bright and cheery addition to the dreary weather we have been having.
I made the violin size sorting cards above for one of our center activities today. I covered the cards with contact paper for durability. The children did really well with this activity. (You may download and print the set by clicking the picture above.)
If you are interested in using this file I created you may download it or print it. The file is free for personal use; however, you are not allowed to post the file on your website. You may link to my site so that others may download the template. Thank you.
For another center activity I made these vase number cards. Some of the children have some trouble getting all of the numbers in the correct order, so this was a good activity. Again, I covered the cards with contact paper. (You may download and print the set by clicking the picture above.)
This center activity was the hit of the morning. I took 5 vases and numbered them 1-5. Then I set out 15 silk flowers. The children were to place the correct number of flowers in each vase. This activity was a fun way for the children to learn one-to-one correspondence.
I served some vegetables for snack today to go with our “V” them. We ended our morning by playing our instruments. It would have been nice to have a violin, but the children had fun with the instruments we do have. Playing the instruments also went right along with our story today. We had a fun time today and will continue our study of the letter “V” on Wednesday.
