About Those Weeds
We have had plenty of rain which has been great for my plants.
However, that means the weeds are thriving, too. Now I need to get serious about weed control.
I won’t be using weed killer, though. A tiller, straw, cardboard, and newspaper will be my weapons of choice. 🙂
My Garden This Week (5-30-13)
My main garden spot is really growing, but you can probably tell I have been neglecting it, especially when you see this next picture.
While my corn is getting quite tall so are those weeds.
Our thornless blackberry bushes are blooming, and I am hopeful we have a great harvest this year because we ran out of blackberry jelly a month ago.
I decided to put some herbs in a huge pot in the lowest spot of our garden because it had flooded so much earlier in the spring.
The herbs are thriving and I am excited to start using them. I planted sage, rosemary, thyme, two types of parsley, and cilantro.
All of the seeds and onions are up in my back garden spot.
Do you remember the potato towers I made two weeks ago? Take a look at their progress.
It appears that all of the potatoes are growing in each of the four towers. Woohoo!
When they get a little bigger I will add more straw and dirt.
All of the greens I planted in my new garden box have sprouted. I am so looking forward to not having to try to tell the difference between the good stuff and the weeds. 🙂
While this next picture isn’t of something growing in my garden, it is a picture of something we have been growing on our farm.
Our hens sure have changed since I first told you about them in early April.
We haven’t let them outside yet because the buffalo gnats have been so bad. We do have an opening with a screen in front of it to let fresh air in.
My brother and sister-in-law lost all of their chickens to the gnats and we don’t want that to happen to ours.
We hope that in the next 2 weeks we can let the girls out. In the meantime, we are providing them with fresh greens each day and they seem content. 🙂
