Earlier today my daughter Julia and I were scouring Pinterest hoping to be inspired for her 4-H arts and crafts project. We found a few ideas we liked and then we saw the cutest pictures made with pencil shavings.
Thanks to the watermark on the photo we were able to track down the website where the artwork was from and found out that the artist’s name is Marta Altés.
Here is Julia’s interpretation of Marta Altés’s flower and butterfly pencil shaving artwork.
How cute is that? While she decided it wasn’t what she wanted to enter in the fair, I think it will be perfect for framing and putting on Janna’s bedroom wall.
The only supplies Julia used were colored pencils, a pencil sharpener, a piece of cardstock, and glue.
She sharpened the colors of pencils she wanted to use in her artwork and used plain white glue to adhere them to the paper.
We found that the pencils with facets made shavings that were more scalloped than the pencils that were smooth.
This was a fun project that I think kids of all ages might enjoy. I have saved the extra shavings and will let the boys have a turn coming up with something to make with them.
Have you ever seen pencil shaving art before?
