Last summer I chose 6 chapter books to read to my children. We had so much fun reading the books, doing an activity related to the book, and then watching a movie to find the differences between it and the book.
This summer I have chosen 5 books to read to my children. While the books I chose aren’t the newest and most popular, they are classics and have lessons we can glean from them.

- Stuart Little by E.B. White
- Little House on the Prairie
by Laura Ingalls Wilder
- The Sign of the Beaver
by Elizabeth George Speare
- My Side of the Mountain
by Jean Craighead George
- Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
by Roald Dahl
We already own each of the books, but I haven’t read any of them to my children before (Except Little House on the Prairie when my oldest was much younger).
While it isn’t easy to pick books that will appeal to such varying ages as my kids are (13 1/2, 10 1/2, 8 1/2, 5 1/2, & 2), I do hope they will enjoy our summer reading times.
Whenever we finish a book I will post our thoughts on the book and an activity related to the book.
I’m excited to get started!
What books are on your summer reading list?
Here are the posts I have written about the books we have read so far.
