Do you ever have to be creative to get your child(ren) to eat vegetables? I often do. It seems like I haven’t done a good job of making it fun to eat cooked vegetables. Sometimes the scenario at our dinner table is one of bargaining. For example, “Eat your veggies so you can get more ____.” Please tell me I’m not the only one with picky children.

Thankfully, I am finding that my kids are getting better at willingly eating their vegetables as they get older. In the meantime, I sometimes resort to sneaking vegetables into foods.

Maybe I’m not the only one who has to get creative when it comes to vegetables because Green Giant has created a line called Valley Fresh Steamers with Pasta.

We were able to try this product recently and my husband and I, along with our older two children really enjoyed the taste. My son with allergies couldn’t try it and our youngest son wouldn’t. :)

The Valley Fresh Steamers with Pasta would not feed our entire family, but one bag was enough for the four of us that tried it. Within 6 minutes of pulling the Steamers bag out of the freezer, we had a yummy side dish on the table. That’s a thumbs up in my book.

We are trying to eat healthier around here, and vegetables are definitely a part of that. I think my favorite veggie has to be lima beans!

At 15 and 11, mine are old enough to understand why they need to eat vegetables, so now all I have to do is remind them when they fix a meal on their own. This is actually a reminder that there are a few things that are easier when they get older! :)

I have a son with sensory issues, so it can be challenging to get him to eat enough veggies, but these are some ways I do.

One thing both my kids eat is steamed cauliflower. I have a bamboo steamer, and it taste so good even without butter or salt or cheese.
My kids like raw broccli and carrots.
Somtimes I give them ranch to dip raw veggies and they like this, but since going dye and high fructose corn syrup free I have not found a ranch they like.
I also grow veggies, like tomatos. My youngest son loves to go out and pick them and eat right away. I use organic plants and no chemicals in soil so I don’t mind him doing this. Unfortionatley harvest season is over.
Another way is green smoothies. Fresh spinach first, then fruit my kids picked and both my kids will drink. The spinach is mild, so they mostly only taste the fruit.

I forgot one, steam and puree caluiflower and mix with mashed potatoes. This is so yummy and healthier than just mashed potatoes.

I like the green giant frozen sweet peas and I am a grandmother and 3 of my grandchildren live with me ages 1, 5 and 6 and I tell my 5 and 6 year old granddaughters that they have to at least try it once to decide if they like it or not and sometimes it helps to serve mashed potatoes with the vegetables.

I watch my grandkids at night so we have dinner together. We race to finish those last few bites to see who the winner will be. “You’re going down grandma!” :) Works every time.

I ‘hide’ mine in the things they like to eat…Cook cauliflower and the puree it and add it to mac ans cheese…I am even known to hide spinach in brownies and cookies
