My Week in Pictures (5-26-12)

May 26, 2012 By Jackie Leave a Comment

Since all of the high schools in our county held their graduation ceremonies today, I thought it would be fun to start off my week in pictures post with a little blast from the past.

My high school graduation in 1992.

20 years ago this month I graduated from high school. I have been looking all week for my senior memory book, but I can’t seem to find it anywhere. I was looking to see what I wrote about what I thought I would be doing at this point in my life. While I am not sure I accomplished all that I thought I would, I am pretty sure that graduating from college, getting married, and having 4-6 children were on my list. Check, check, and check! 🙂

While looking through the high school mementos I did find I realized something, it doesn’t really matter what I thought I would be doing, it matters what I am doing. I am trying to live the way God wants me to, and that is probably the most important life goal anyone can have.

That night so long ago I gave the benediction. I said some of the final words before the class of 1992 parted ways. Here is the prayer I said.

“Dear Lord, as we are about to graduate, let us be mindful of the many challenges You have placed before us. Help us to know that with Your guidance and love we can accomplish our goals and dreams, and overcome any obstacles set before us. Please help us to have the wisdom to learn from our mistakes. Lord, instill in us a sense of who we are. Help each of us to believe in ourselves because if we can’t love ourselves then we can’t truly love You. Father, be with each of the graduates, for we are going our separate ways and we will never pass this way again. In Jesus Christ we pray, Amen.”

While it is most definitely the prayer of an 18 year old, I think that asking God for wisdom to learn from my mistakes was probably the best part of the whole prayer. I sure make plenty of them and need to learn from them so I don’t repeat them.

Well, enough strolling down memory lane. On to the present and a look at this week, in pictures.

Sunday

I am not sure what made Julia want to try on my old prom dress, but she sure had fun playing dress-up. She outgrew the official dress-up clothes years ago, but on Sunday it reminded me of how she was when she was about 4 or 5 and loved playing dress-up. Oh, how quickly the time is going. She still has about 8 inches to go before she is as tall as me, but I don’t really expect her to be 6’1″. I guess if she ever wears this dress for real we will have to alter it.

Monday

I spent so much time taking pictures off of memory cards and charging batteries that I didn’t take a single picture on Monday. Oops.

Tuesday

Janna absolutely loves being outside and was having fun with her big brothers this day. She was trying to decide whether she could climb the steps to the little slide when I snapped this picture.

Wednesday

I love watching Joshua and Joseph play, when they aren’t arguing that is. They were unaware I was taking pictures of them blowing bubbles on the swing, and I was happy to capture such a sweet moment.

Thursday

Julia started working on her 4-H craft project on Thursday. We hope to have it finished this coming week. I will share details after the fair in July, so I guess you will be left in suspense until then. 🙂

Friday

James and Joshua received several awards at their school awards program on Friday. I am so proud of how well they did academically, but more importantly I am so proud of the young men they are turning out to be.

Saturday

My husband, along with the big kids, worked really hard to get the pool ready to swim in today. With it being in the high 90’s, we are definitely ready to enjoy swimming this summer. I love how I caught Joshua in mid-air. That boy is a fish!

I hope you have had a great week, too. Are the temperatures high where you live? It seems more like August here, but I am trying not to complain because when it is winter I will wish it was warm again.
