Today we continued our study of the letter “J” and the color brown. We also started learning more about circles. Here are some of the highlights of our morning.
First, the children traced their letter “Jj” papers and then glued on some jewels. They loved how sparkly they were, and picking them up and placing them on dots of glue was good for their fine motor skills. The paper was from DLTK-Kids, but I modified it to have a top on the “J”. These papers will go in their alphabet binders.
We also made “Junk Jars” like I posted about yesterday. The children really had fun with this project. I set out some various items and they put them inside of a clean peanut butter jar. Then I poured some rice on top and hot glued on the lid. They loved shaking the jars and finding all of the different items they had put inside.
Wednesday is usually our painting day, so the children painted their folders with brown paint. (I will share more about their folders on Friday.) Since we are also studying circles I gave the children some empty thread spools to use in place of paintbrushes.
I also set out some juice can lids and canning jar rings (I love finding items to go with our letter of the week.) along with some paper, pencils and crayons. The children traced circles onto their papers and also practiced some of their letters and numbers. It is exciting to watch how these children learn.
Finally, I read a book called I Like Me! by Nancy Carlson. I have had this book for several years, and like how positive the story is. It is just a simple little story about a pig and how she likes herself even when things don’t always go as planned. “When I make mistakes, I try and try again!”
We had a great morning, and I am looking forward to finishing our letter “J” study on Friday.
