I have done this cereal name activity with my little ones at various times through the years. I think my daughter was only 2 the first time we used cereal and glue to make her name.
To make a child’s name in cereal here is what I do. First, I write their name on a piece of heavy paper. (I chose red for my preschoolers yesterday because we are studying red this week.) Then, I have them help me hold a bottle of glue as we trace the letters of their name saying them as we go. Next, I give them a bowl of cereal (usually generic Cheerios) and ask them to put the cereal on each letter. They are also allowed to eat the cereal as they work.
This is a great activity that incorporates snack time and name recognition. Tracing the letters with glue and saying them out load is great for letter recognition. Choosing a colored piece of paper helps with color recognition, and putting the cereal on the letters is great for fine motor skills.
You could also change this activity up by using beans, unpopped popcorn, glitter, etc. for a totally different look.
