Today’s picture is of our dog Roscoe who has been a part of our family for 8 years. We got him in January of 2004 from a friend of mine. Roscoe’s mother had been eating my friend’s dogs’ food for about 6 weeks when all of a sudden she quit coming around.
Then my friend and her husband noticed a litter of puppies in their yard who appeared to be about 6 weeks old. So, we got to pick out two puppies. Roscoe and his brother Wishbone came to live with us, but Wishbone disappeared when he was less than a year old. We imagine coyotes got the better of him.
Roscoe was a bundle of energy when he was younger. Even still, when he comes running full force to greet us we have to make sure our feet are firmly planted in case he fails to apply the breaks and ends up running into us. My husband has ended up on the ground a few times when Roscoe has been a little too anxious to see him. :-)
Roscoe has settled down over the years and become quite a loyal friend. I remember wondering just how big he would get as I held him in my lap the day we brought him home. His paws seemed quite large and I thought he might be a decent sized dog. Considering he can put his front paws on my shoulders (I’m 6’1″.), he is definitely not small.
The life of an outdoor country dog seems to have agreed with Roscoe over the years and I think he has enjoyed being a part of our family.
I took this picture late this afternoon when James, Janna and I took a walk around the yard. I used my telephoto lens and an automatic action setting. Here are the details.
