I made this flower wand to add to our dress-up collection. It was so simple and quick to make, and all of the items can be found at your local craft store or Walmart.
The items you will need to make a flower wand are as follows:
- 1/4 inch dowel rod cut to 12 inches in length (I purchased a package of dowels that were all the same length, so I didn't have to make any cuts.)
- 6 yards of 1/8 inch satin ribbon (I used 3 yards each of 2 colors.)
- 1 eye hook
- 3 artificial flowers (You will cut the stems off for this project.)
- scissors
- hot glue gun
Screw the eye hook into one end of the dowel. (You won't need any tools for this.) Make sure it is in securely.
Cut the ribbon into 1 yard lengths for a total of 6 pieces of ribbon.
Thread the ribbons through the eye hook making sure they are even on both sides.
Double knot the ribbon over the eye hook.
Start hot gluing the flowers (Remember to cut the stems off flush to the flower head.) to the eye hook. I glued one flower to each side and one on the top of the hook. This way the eye hook is completely covered.
You now have a flower princess wand that any little girl would love to play with. Use your own judgement when allowing a child younger than three to play with a wand like this. Also, if you wanted to dress up the wand even more you could paint the dowel or wrap it in ribbon.
I would like to thank my sister-in-law for giving me some of her wedding "leftovers" which allowed me to make this wand. :-)
