What I’m Into {June 2015}

July 1, 2015 By Jackie 4 Comments

Goodbye, June. Hello, July.

Whew! I thought that the summer would mean a slower pace for our family. While it has been nice to not have to follow the school schedule for over a month, we packed a lot of fun into June.

From a day trip to the Children’s Museum to playing outside to working on 4-H projects to taking a vacation, June was a fun and busy month.

My Family

I have loved having my family home this past month and we have enjoyed lots of fun times together.

Swinging

Summer is a time when I want my kids to be kids. I try not to pack too many planned activities into each week. Many days in June were spent at home enjoying the simple pleasures of country life.

Obstacle Course

On the first Friday of June we took a day trip to the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. We have been there many times over the years but the kids always enjoy it.

With our family size, it is always more cost effective for us to purchase a membership. We have the opportunity to go back any time we want in the next year, plus we got to enjoy free carousel rides.

Children's Museum Simpsons

We haven’t taken a “real” vacation since 2012 when we went with my parents and brother’s family to Florida.

At the end of last week and beginning of this week we took a trip to parts of northern Ohio, all over Michigan, and parts of the northern half of Indiana.

Throwing Rocks in the Lake

It was a wonderful trip and we have so much to be thankful for. I think that I will have to write a post just about our vacation because God really was with us through it all.

In the picture above my family is throwing rocks into Lake Michigan right next to a real lighthouse.

What I’m Working On

Our county 4-H fair starts in about 2 weeks and we worked quite a bit before our trip to get as much done as possible.

Cutting Out Sewing Pattern

Julia cut out her 3 piece outfit and started sewing it. We stopped to finish her arts & crafts and child development projects a few days before we left.

Red Fabric Scraps

My husband has been helping James and Joshua with their electricity projects and James with his woodworking project. I am so thankful he has been home this summer to help me. Plus, I kind of like having him around just because. :)

We still have a lot to do to get ready for the fair, but we are getting closer. While it is always a lot of work to complete projects for the fair, it is a great way for the kids to learn new skills.

My Favorite Picture

Looking at the Lake

I love this picture because it reminds me of how small we are in this big world. We can’t always see what is just beyond the horizon but, if we stop and slow down a little, we can enjoy what is right in front of us without worrying about what we can’t see.

Or, it’s just a cute picture of my little Janna. :)

On the Blog

I started the month strong by posting quite a few recipes and garden updates. Then, I went 2 weeks without posting a thing. For me, real life always trumps blogging no matter how much I have to say or want to share in this space. Here are the posts I did manage to write in June.

  • Oven Roasted Chicken and Vegetables
  • Canning Strawberries
  • {Garden Update} Thankful for Rain
  • Mulberry Pie Recipe
  • {Garden Update} The Best Way to Deal with Weeds
  • 2 Ingredient Strawberry Jam Canning Recipe
  • {Allergy-Free} Chocolate Zucchini Cake
  • {Garden Update} It’s a Jungle Out There

Well, that about does it for June. To keep up with me until next month’s update head over to Instagram where I have been sharing all sorts of random pictures. Also, be sure to follow me on Pinterest and Facebook while you’re at it.

What were you into in June?

I’m linking up with Leigh Kramer to show what I’m into lately!
