February kind of flew by thanks to it being a short month coupled with the fact that we had a bunch of snow days near the end. We had made it all winter without any snow days and then on President’s day it seemed like winter had officially started just when we were beginning to think about spring.
I love having snow in the winter, but it has been hard not to be a little grumpy because we have missed four days of school and had quite a few 2-hour delays. While I love having the kids and my husband home, I hope we can get finished with school before June.
My Family
Early in the month Julia sang at the regional solo contest and received a gold medal. I think she did such a great job, but I am biased. She was going to be able to compete at the state level, but the snow last weekend prevented us from being able to go. (If you want to hear her sing, check out this YouTube video.)
James finished his 6th grade basketball season with a tournament win. He is a hard-working, talented boy and I really enjoy watching him play.
Even though I enjoy watching my kids at their activities, I enjoy watching them have fun at home even more.

We had a wonderful time playing in the snow last Saturday (and several other days the past few weeks as well). There wasn’t much wind, the temperature was in the lower 30’s, and the sun was shining. It was a trifecta of perfection for playing in the snow.

I had as much fun playing in the snow and sledding as the kids did. Not too bad for a 41 year old.
Speaking of being 41, we celebrated my birthday last week with pecan pie and little fanfare (I loved my big party last year, but that was enough to last me several years. 🙂 )
What I’m Working On
I have been busy working on several website designs with my design business. I have also completed a few crafty endeavors this month.

One of the projects I worked on recently was making my niece a birthday outfit. I plan to share the tutorial and pictures of her wearing the outfit very soon. I just have to give it to her first. 🙂
Julia and I found a site where they take outfits from retailers and give you fabric and pattern options so you can make something similar for yourself at a fraction of the price. We ordered some patterns and fabrics to make her some new dresses so hopefully I will get to work on those soon.
Favorite Picture

I only had my phone with me when I saw this gorgeous sunrise a couple of weeks ago, but the colors of the sky were truly dazzling. What a wonderful Creator we have to surround us with such beauty.
What I’m Reading
I really haven’t started any new books since January. I used to be such a fast reader, but I just seem to have so many things to do during the day that when I do sit down to read I fall asleep. I guess I shouldn’t have made fun of my dad for falling asleep in the chair when I was younger. 🙂
I am highly considering listening to audiobooks while I am working as a way to maximize my time. Having never listened to an audiobook, I am not sure how much I will like it, though. This post from Modern Mrs. Darcy has some helpful tips for saving money on audiobooks, so I think I will give it a try.
What I’m Watching
I watched the season finale of Downton Abbey last night and I am so excited that there is going to be a season 6. I also have started watching Grantchester and I am catching up on Mr. Selfridge before the new season starts later this month. I think it is safe to say I have a thing for British period TV shows and movies.
On the Blog
I think I finally found my blogging mojo last week. I wrote several posts and have several more in the works. Blogging has been a great outlet for me over the years and I am glad to be getting over my posting slump.
Here are the posts I shared in February.
