Week in Review (5-25-13)

May 25, 2013 By Jackie Leave a Comment

What’s New?

School is officially over for us and we are ready to enjoy the summer. I am so proud of how well Julia, James, and Joshua did this school year.

They are smart, talented, and just good kids overall. Most importantly, they love the Lord.

Even though we are celebrating I can’t help but think of the people in Moore, OK who are dealing with the aftermath of the tornado that hit Monday.

Last night I was watching a news story and a couple of the teachers and the principal from the elementary school were talking about what it was like during and after the tornado.

I was in tears as I heard these women talking about how they hovered over the children. One woman even had a wall and a car land on her. It was apparent that the teachers had done everything they could to keep them safe.

My last year of teaching I taught 2nd grade. One spring day a very severe thunderstorm hit and the power went out.

I lit candles and had a couple of flashlights. Even though it was the middle of the day it was pitch black outside.

Understandably, the children were scared. I told them to look at my face and asked them if I looked scared.

They said I didn’t, and I told them that unless I was scared they shouldn’t be either.

Hearing the teachers from Moore, OK brought back the memory of that day 11+ years ago when I was responsible for the safety of those little second graders.

I imagine those teachers were telling their children not to be scared and that everything would be alright, and for some that was true. For some it wasn’t…

We may never know why bad things like this happen. I am just going to keep praying for the people of Moore, OK and pray that they will feel God’s love poured out on them in their time of need.

Picture of the Week

Week in Review 5-25-13

Our little kittens have been moved by their mom/aunt again. Now, they are right next to the house in a flower bed.

Long story short: One cat had 3 kittens. Her daughter had 3 kittens a few weeks later. The daughter took over all 6 cats a week or two ago and has moved them probably 6 times.

Anyway, the kids, especially the boys, love playing with the kittens, so I just had to snap a picture of them all last night.

So sweet!

  • We don’t drink kool-aid, but I might give this natural “cool-aid” a try because it uses fruity herbal tea instead of food coloring. (via Lexie’s Kitchen)
  • I remember nursing my first baby in public bathrooms or the car because I thought I shouldn’t nurse her where people could see. I got over that after having a second (& 3rd, 4th, & 5th) baby. “Is breastfeeding a modesty issue?” is a good read if you are struggling with the issue of nursing in public. (via Slightly Steady)
  • I have never grown cucumbers on a trellis, but I just might after reading these 5 reasons why I should.

That about does it for this week in review. What’s new with you?
