Swiss Steak & Round Steak Crockpot Recipes

I enjoy using my crockpot even though I don’t use it nearly as much as I would like to.  However, there are two ways we enjoy eating round steak that are simple and use my crockpot.  The first is a tomato based recipe and the second is a gravy based recipe.

Crockpot Swiss Steak

Round Steak
Oil
Tomato Juice
Sliced Onion
Sliced Green Pepper
Salt & Pepper

Heat 1-2 tablespoons of oil in a skillet.  Lightly brown the round steak on both sides.  Transfer the meat to your crockpot and sprinkle with salt and pepper.  Put the sliced onion and green pepper into the skillet and saute until the onion is translucent.  Put the onion and pepper slices into the crockpot.  Pour 1 quart of tomato juice over the meat, onion and pepper in the crockpot.  Cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours.

Crockpot Round Steak with Gravy

Round Steak
Oil
Flour
Salt & Pepper
Water

Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a skillet.  Lightly brown the round steak on both sides.  Transfer the meat to your crockpot and sprinkle with salt and pepper.  Add 2 tablespoons of flour to the skillet and use a fork or whisk to blend the flour and oil together.  Cook for about a minute and then add 2 cups of water.  Whisk to combine.  Cook until the mixture starts to boil.  Pour over the meat in the crockpot.  Cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours.
