My Sunday school class made these cute manger cards and I thought you might like to know how we made them.

I have been doing a variation of this craft for many years, but this was the first time we used popsicle sticks as the manger thanks to an idea I saw at Crafty Mama Blog.
We started by folding a piece of cardstock in half. Then, we glued 2 large popsicle sticks to the front.
Fake straw that I got years ago from who knows where was what we glued inside the manger. You could use shredded paper, real straw, etc.

To make the baby Jesus we used gauze. You know, the kind you would wrap a wound with.
We put glue all over the baby template I had precut for the kids and then we wrapped the gauze around it.

When we were finished we glued a face to the baby and glued the baby to the manger.
The use of gauze helps the children better understand the concept of wrapping the baby in swaddling clothes (Luke 2:7).
Finally, we added a star and a halo cut from yellow construction paper.
I recommend putting some waxed paper over the cards and then sitting a heavy book on them for a while so that everything will dry flat.
The cards can be further embellished by the addition of a Bible verse or simply the words “Merry Christmas” written on the front.
I decided to make a printable in case you wanted to either cut out and glue the shapes or use them as templates. Either way, you can download and print the page by clicking the link below.
Baby Jesus in the Manger Printable
You will notice that the face I made is different from the one on the printable. You can totally wing this craft, but maybe you will find the printable helpful, too.
