We got to take a short vacation from Sunday afternoon until Wednesday afternoon this week. It was a lot of fun and we got to do several things on our summer bucket list.
My husband had a conference at Brown County State Park and we got to tag along. Last year we stayed in two rooms at the lodge, but this year we decided to rent a family cabin.
The cabin was so nice because we all got to be together instead of being crammed into two non-adjoining hotel rooms like last year.
Because the cabin had a kitchen I was able to cook all of our meals and we didn’t have to eat out the entire trip. While to some that might not feel like a vacation, to me it was great because of food allergies and trying to be frugal.
Staying in the cabin gave us access to the indoor waterpark which we enjoyed three of the days we were at the park.
The waterpark had a huge slide, a lazy river, a pool, a zero entry splash area, and a hot tub. My kids, husband, and I had a great time enjoying all of the areas.
On Monday morning the weather was really nice so the kids and I went on some trails while my husband was in meetings.
Some of the views were simply breathtaking.
The trail we took went right by the horse stables. Since some of my kids weren’t old enough to go on a long trail ride, I got to lead the youngest four on a short pony ride.
We all took a drive that evening and saw most of the park.
On Tuesday I took the kids to the nature center and they really enjoyed learning about some of the animals that live in our state.
On Wednesday we packed everything up and headed south a little bit and visited Bluespring Caverns before heading home.
The caverns were located out in the middle of nowhere and it really was amazing to think that underneath houses and farm land there are miles of underground caverns.
One thing I am glad I had read about was to wear a jacket because the cavern was very chilly.
We rode a boat through 5/8 of a mile of underground caverns and then turned around and came back the same way.
Our tour guide gave us lots of information and I think the kids really learned a lot. Janna ended up falling asleep and snoring, but other than that I think it was fun for all of us. 🙂
I am so thankful for the fun and relaxing time our family had this week.
