Last week my kids and I went to a nearby park to have a picnic lunch and to play on the playground. Both of those activities were on our summer bucket list, so we had double the fun. 🙂
Actually, we could have marked four items off of our list, but I thought I wouldn’t count the other two things we did, take a walk in the woods and visit a local museum.
When we arrived at the park we found a picnic table and ate our lunch.
We had some company while we were eating. These Canadian geese were very interested in what we were eating. Too bad we found a sign after we fed them some bread that the park didn’t recommend feeding aquatic birds. Oops.
After that we headed to the nature center.
My younger two boys were fascinated by a rat snake.
My oldest two children were watching a snapping turtle swim very quickly in its tank.
My baby girl was glad they made a place for her to crawl on to get a better look at some fish.
When we were finished in the nature center we decided to take a walk around the pond and through the woods before heading to the playground.
I thought Janna would be safer in the sling than toddling along and possibly venturing too close to the water for her mommy’s comfort. 🙂
After our walk the kids played for quite a while on the playground equipment. The big curly slide was a favorite of the oldest four.
My 7 year old loved showing me how strong he was as he ventured across the monkey bars.
The swing was a lot of fun for little miss one year old.
Before we headed home we stopped at the Native American museum that was also at the park.
We had such a great time playing and learning together, and the best part was that it was free. Even though we had to drive about 1/2 an hour to get to this park and we live out it the country, it was definitely worth visiting.
Do you enjoy taking your children to parks?
