Last week we were able to check another item off of our summer bucket list by attending, and participating in, our county fair.
My oldest daughter has been in 4-H for 5 years now, and my oldest got to be in 4-H for the first time this year. They both enjoyed making and entering their projects.
My son made a cutting board for his woodworking project. He made 2 more for practice that will probably become Christmas gifts for his grandparents. (Shhh, don’t tell them.) As you can see from the picture he received a blue ribbon and he also received an honor ribbon. He was so excited.
Since my son loves building with Legos so much, it was an obvious choice for him to enter the construction toys category. He received a blue ribbon for the Star Wars set he built. He is already thinking of ideas for next year’s fair.
Two days prior to the start of the fair there is always a fashion revue where the girls who are entering sewing projects get to model them. They are judged on the fit of their garment(s) and the way they carry themselves.
My daughter won Jr. Grand Champion of the 3rd through 7th grade girls. We thought she looked beautiful on stage and I guess the judge did as well.
When my daughter’s outfit was judged with regards to how well she sewed the skirt, T-shirt, and scarf she made, she received a blue ribbon, a champion ribbon, and state fair selection.
My daughter also entered an arts and crafts project which was two hair clips and a ring with ribbon 4-leaf clovers to go with the 4-H logo. She received a blue ribbon and an honor ribbon for this project.
I entered two pictures in open class photography and received blue ribbons for both of them. This picture was taken in March when our apple tree was in full bloom.
This picture was of my 7 year old and he was so excited to get a blue ribbon. I think he thought it was because of how cute he looked and not because of my photography skills. 🙂
I entered my baby girl (15 months) in the baby contest. This was the best picture my 9 year old took. Maybe it is a good thing he didn’t want to do photography as a project this year. 😉 Anyway, Janna didn’t win, but we thought she and my niece (Who was in the same category.) were cuties.
We had a lot of fun being a part of the fair this year. Do you participate in and/or attend your county fair?
