Placemat Clothespin Bag Tutorial

July 1, 2010 By Jackie 14 Comments

My mom made me a clothespin bag a couple of years ago and I really like it. It’s on a hanger and was made from quilted fabric.

I thought my mom’s idea was so clever and useful that I wanted to make another one so I could show you how to make a clothespin bag, too.

I had an extra placemat and decided it would be perfect for turning into a clothespin bag.

With no cutting and only three seams, this is a very easy and simple project that you could complete in about 15 minutes tops.

I just made a new clothespin bag out of an old shower curtain. Yours is cute!

I love this idea. I would put velcro across the top so I could take it off the hanger to wash.

    • Jackie

Thanks! I have been thinking about making a new one with Velcro for just that reason. Great idea!

Great idea and so simple - thanks fo rthe idea! I’ve been looking to buy one but can’t find one anywhere that will last longer than one summer! Just love all your ideas!

Thank you! This is a very quick project. Let me know how your clothespin bag turns out.

Hi, I live in Manchester, England and have just made a placemat ( bought in Atlanta on holiday ) peg bag from your instructions. Very impressed and so quick and easy. We don’t see this sort of placemat here and as I bought 7 I can use the spare without spoiling the set. Thanks for the idea !!

    • Jackie

That is great, Angela! I’m so glad you liked my tutorial. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

I have been making these for years, but use tea towels!

    • Jackie

Tea towels would work great, too. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you! Love this idea. I cheated and used a glue gun but it looks and works great! 🙂

    • Jackie

Thanks, Laura! I never would have thought of a glue gun because I love to sew, but I am so glad you figured out a solution that worked for you. Maybe someone else will find your no-sew method helpful, too.

Living with chronic illness forces me to find quick solutions. Sewing is pretty new to me so it even this simple project would have taken me a while! I only have so much energy in a day so the glue gun has become my best friend. 🙂

I am so sorry you have a chronic illness. I will be praying for you. So glad you are still able to be crafty and that your resourcefulness is paying off. 🙂
