Placemat Bag Tutorial

February 25, 2010 By Jackie 7 Comments

Last week I said that I was working on a placemat bag tutorial. Well, after starting the tutorial last May I finally finished it. (Procrastinate much?)

Placemat Bag

I first made a bag like this two years ago and was just playing around. I decided I wanted to make a few modifications and did just that when I made another bag last year. Now, you get to try out my tutorial. :)

Placemat Bag Tutorial

Before I go I just had to share something my crafty daughter made for a friend. She said that a few kids from school wanted her to make them bags. So, she got out some denim fabric scraps we had and got to work over the weekend. She surprised me when she showed me that she did this.

name on fabric

Can you tell what she stitched on the bag? KAYLEE That is her friend’s name and she did this with no help or guidance whatsoever. I never would have done something like this at ten years old. I am so happy that she loves to craft and has such initiative.

    Hi Jackie!
I loved this tutorial! I'm thinking of having a few young moms over to do this together! I think it would be a fun time! It doesn't seem to be a long project, and is such a useful thing, especially for a mom! (The only part I couldn't get without actually seeing it was the corner.) But I'm sure when I see it, it'll be fine.
    Thanks and Blessings,
    Wendy

Thanks for your comments! They are fun and easy to make. I am going to have to be on the lookout for more cute placemats because I only have one left.

Wendy, that would be great. Let me know if you try this with a group. That would be fun. Take care.

Hi I love the idea. I am trying to make one for my son so he can carry his bible but I can not find how to do the corners. Is there any way you could explain it to me. thanks

I guess I really need to make a video of how I sew the corners. In the meantime, I found a short YouTube video that should be helpful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRxlg4hA-ow Let me know how it goes. I would love to see your finished bag. :)
