Oven Roasted Potatoes

I have been making oven roasted potatoes for a few months and my family can’t get enough of them. They snarf them down so quickly that there are never leftovers. The recipe is simple and is a great alternative to fries.

Oven Roasted Potatoes

Ingredients
  • 4-6 Potatoes
  • 1-2 Tbsp. Olive Oil or Melted Bacon Grease
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Paprika
Instructions
  1. Peel and cut the potatoes into chunks.
  2. Place the potatoes on a large baking sheet or pan.
  3. Drizzle the potatoes with the olive oil or bacon grease and toss to coat.
  4. Spread the potatoes out on the baking sheet.
  5. Sprinkle salt, pepper, and paprika over all of the potatoes.
  6. Bake in a preheated 400 degree oven for 25-30 minutes, or until potatoes are tender but not mushy.
Notes
I prefer to use bacon grease because it adds a good flavor to the potatoes. I also use a baking sheet with sides to prevent any grease or oil from rolling off the sides.

Peeling the potatoes is something I do for my family, but you can leave the skins on and the results should still be the same.

Large potatoes are what I use but not the huge ones. You can make as many or as few potatoes as you choose, just add more or less oil/grease as needed.

I’ve been making these for a while too, and they’re one of our favorite ways to make potatoes! I put foil down on my pan to avoid having to scrub the potato pieces off the bottom of the pan (yes, I know - lazy!) but have found that if I stir the potatoes a few times while they’re cooking, they stick a whole lot less. I’ve also tried this recipe with cut up onions, and cut up garlic or garlic powder. We love them all ways. I’ll have to try the paprika next!

Sara, something you can do is to spread the oil or grease on the pan first and then add the potatoes to the pan and toss them around until they are coated. However, if the foil is working I guess don’t mess with a good thing. 🙂 I love roasted onions and garlic, too.

My family loves potatoes. This would be a delicious way to prepare them during the winter.

Thanks, Rachel! Let me know what your family thinks. 🙂

These are good. We use garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, and a little salt. Olive oil is the only oil that works. Great reminder-need to make these again soon!

Oh I forgot to mention, I usually put the oil and spices in a large ziplock and shake, or in a large bowl…that way they are coated, and don’t stick (stirring 1/2 way through cooking.

Thanks, Amy! Garlic powder, onion powder, and chili powders sound like great additions to these potatoes. I usually coat the pan with the oil or grease while I am coating the potatoes, and haven’t had a problem with the potatoes sticking.
