A couple of months ago the girls and I attended a wedding. I decided to do something a little different for the couple’s wedding gift.
While I know cash is always a welcome gift as are items off the registry, I decided that maybe having an easy meal with almost all of the necessary supplies and ingredients would be helpful.
I thought about which of our favorite recipes might translate well into a shelf-stable gift and settled upon my chicken pasta alfredo recipe. And with that, the Newlywed Dinner Survival Kit was born.
The kit contained a 5 quart dutch oven, a colander, measuring cups and spoons, a large spoon, a box of bow tie pasta, 2 cans of chicken, garlic powder, parmesan cheese, a can of green beans, and a can of peaches.
I printed out a recipe card and placed all of the items into the dutch oven.
The only items the couple would have needed were water, milk, butter, salt, and pepper. I could have included a can of milk as well as salt and pepper but I was afraid I wouldn’t have room. Maybe next time I will do that.
I used half of a plastic tablecloth to wrap up the kit and tied a big bow around it.
I even came up with a corny poem to use as a gift tag. You really just never know what I might come up with. 🙂

Even if you don’t want to give this as wedding gift you can always print out the recipe card and do something similar for a housewarming present.

If you’re wondering how the gift was received, the couple sent us a nice thank you and said that they enjoyed the meal.
