This week James turned 10 which means that I now have two children in double digits. (How did that happen?) Even though he has grown and changed so much I still remember the night he was born so clearly.
The doctor had told me that I wasn’t dilated at all and that the head was still very high when I had my appointment the day before. He told me that he didn’t see me going into labor anytime soon.
I guess James decided to prove him wrong because 14 hours after my appointment I went into labor. 4 hours and 23 minutes later I gave birth to James. It was a whirlwind labor, but it was amazing for something other than being fast.
You see, the doctor was wrong about one other “minor” detail. James was breech and it wasn’t his head that the doctor thought he felt, it was his bottom. When I was fully dilated the doctor broke my water and realized that James was going to be born breech.
In three pushes he was out, and blessedly he was smaller than his sister so there were no troubles with him being “stuck”. James looked around the room for a few seconds before he cried. He was perfect and I was so thankful to not have needed a c-section. I have often said that I think God blinded us all to the fact that James had been breech for months so that I didn’t have to undergo surgery.
James was just meant to be born backwards, I guess. And, my life has been turned upside down, in a good way, ever since. 🙂
Now, on to the pictures of our week.
We have had a few days of rain this past week and last Sunday we even got to enjoy a double rainbow. The kids had fun playing outside in the light, sunny rain.
The rest of our week was spent enjoying each other, celebrating James’ birthday, reading stories, watching Julia run cross country, playing outside, and playing with using the ice & water dispensers of our new-to-us Craigslist refrigerator.
I think we had a pretty awesome week and I feel like my blessings are definitely overflowing. How was your week?
