Today we finished our study of the letter “E” and the color purple. Fridays are the days we usually do some of the favorite activities from the week and review. Here are some of the highlights from the day.
The children finished their “E” folders and took them home today. The elephant paintings I wrote about on Monday were the fronts of their folders. All of the elephants turned out so cute.
The inside of the folders had the numbers 1-20, an elephant, an elephant poem, a mini notepad in the shape of an egg, a letter “E” mini book and tracing paper from First-School, and an envelope with a name tracing paper from Kidzone tucked inside.
For our snack today I made Rice Krispie Treat nests with a candy egg in the center. I had frozen a bag of the eggs back at Easter time when they were inexpensive. The children loved this snack. I usually try not to serve too many sweets, but couldn’t resist this treat.
I know the picture above looks chaotic, but the children loved making purple collages. I simply gave them each a piece of white paper and set out some purple crayons, purple paper, scissors and glue. Their creations were each unique. It was great practice with fine motor skills while encouraging the children to use their creativity. A way to authenticate what children say about their artwork is to write down what they say about their pictures. Children love to see their words written down, and it is great for pre-readers.
We had a great week! Next week we will be studying the letter “F” and the color pink. See you Monday. 🙂
