Today we finished our study of the letter “P”. We started our morning by reading the book Pig Pig Gets a Job by David McPhail. In this story Pig Pig wants some money to buy things. His mother helps him brainstorm ways he can earn money. He finds out that he can do lots of things around the house to earn money. Often children think that they can just go and buy whatever they want, but I think this story could help them understand the concept of working to earn money.
After our story we made these cute shape pigs. The children first traced two different sizes of circles (butter and sour cream container lids) onto pink paper and then cut them out. Then they glued them to a purple piece of paper. They added pre-cut rectangle legs, ears, and a thin rectangle we curled for the tail. They also traced a milk jug lid to make the snout and added nostrils, a mouth and wiggly eyes.
We also learned this cute pig song I found at Everything Preschool.
Six Little Pigs
Six little pigs rolled in the mud,
Squishy, squashy, felt so good.
The farmer took one pig out.
Oink, Oink, Oink, the pig did shout.
Five little pigs rolled in the mud,
Squishy, squashy, felt so good.
The farmer took one pig out.
Oink, Oink, Oink, the pig did shout.
Four little pigs rolled in the mud,
Squishy, squashy, felt so good.
The farmer took one pig out.
Oink, Oink, Oink, the pig did shout.
Three little pigs rolled in the mud,
Squishy, squashy, felt so good.
The farmer took one pig out.
Oink, Oink, Oink, the pig did shout.
Two little pigs rolled in the mud,
Squishy, squashy, felt so good.
The farmer took one pig out.
Oink, Oink, Oink, the pig did shout.
One little pigs rolled in the mud,
Squishy, squashy, felt so good.
The farmer took one pig out.
Oink, Oink, Oink, the pig did shout.
No little pigs rolled in the mud,
They all looked clean and good.
The farmer turned his back and then,
Those pigs rolled in the mud again!
We also did a little color mixing activity. I gave the children some red and blue paint and had them mix the two colors together to see if we would get purple. We ended up with more of a plum color than a true purple, but they had fun.
The children then painted a letter “Pp” page from DLTK with the paint. These papers will go in each child’s alphabet binder.
