To go with our study of the letter H I thought it would be fun to have my son paint with a heart stamp. A sticky-backed foam heart, an empty thread spool, and some paint were all that we needed to do this fun activity.
My son first chose the heart in the picture above, but we ended up switching to a larger one.
He peeled off the paper backing and adhered the heart to the spool.
Then he dipped it into some paint and got to work stamping lots of hearts on his folder.
The spool was easy to hold onto which made this process easier. I have seen people use plastic lids to make stamps. While those are great, I imagine they aren’t as easy to hold onto as a spool.
While not all of the hearts actually look like hearts because my little guy moved the stamp, he loved the way his folder turned out.
That’s what counts with little ones. It’s not whether their finished project looks perfect, but whether they had fun in the process.
While we had the foam heart stickers out, my son covered the capital and lowercase H’s on a paper I printed from DLTK. This page will go in his alphabet binder.
In an effort to start trying to “keep it real” I thought I would share a picture of what my 23 month old did while my son and I were doing these activities. Real life isn’t as nice and neat as it may seem when you read a blog.
Little Miss didn’t want to be left out so she decided to dump all of the hearts on the table. Then they apparently needed to take a trip to the floor just as I snapped this picture.
Yes, real life isn’t always neat, but it sure is lively and lots of fun if you don’t take a bunch of hearts on the floor too seriously. 🙂
