{Letter E} Eggs

Today we studied the letter E again by doing some egg-themed activities.

We turned a lowercase letter E into a chick hatching out of an egg. I got this idea from Totally Tots.

To make this craft my son colored a lowercase letter E and then we cut it out. I made an oval out of white paper and cut it to look like a cracked egg.

My son glued the E inside the open egg. A wiggly eye and a paper beak finished off the chick.

Another egg-themed activity involved plastic eggs. I mismatched 6 eggs and gave them to my son.

I asked him to match the eggs correctly and then had him put them inside of half of an egg carton that I had colored the egg cups to match the colors of the eggs.

He really liked this color matching activity and did very well with it.

The other activity we did with plastic eggs involved counting and matching. I gave my son 12 plastic eggs that I had used a permanent marker on to make dots.

He counted the dots and then put them into the corresponding place in an egg carton that I had written the numbers 1-12 inside.

My son has done both of these egg activities several times this week. He and his little sister have also been fighting over playing with the eggs.

We also read the book Dora’s Eggs by Julie Sykes. This is such a cute story about a hen who wants everyone to admire her eggs only to find that the other animals are too busy with their own babies to see her eggs. Dora starts to feel bad about her eggs not being special enough, until they hatch.

We had a lot of fun today. Tomorrow I will be sharing some painting projects.
