Today my son and I did some dinosaur themed activities. Our first activity was to make a dinosaur out of a lowercase letter d.

I got this idea from The Princess and the Tot, but I decided to change it up a little bit to make it more interactive for my son.
And, yes, I realize that it doesn’t look like any dinosaur you have ever seen. That is because it is a newly found dinosaur called the Josephasaurus. 🙂

My son first colored a lowercase letter d that I printed from DLTK that I had enlarged to 125%. We cut it out and then he glued it to a piece of paper.

He also added a tail, a head, spikes, and long legs that we made and cut out of green construction paper. My little guy was very proud of his dinosaur and it is now guarding our refrigerator.

Another activity that my son enjoyed today was playing with his dinosaur set, our sensory table, and a couple of playsilks.

I love the imagination that my son has right now. He had the dinosaurs doing all sorts of things like drinking water in the river, eating leaves off of the trees, and guarding their nests.

To help my son understand how big a dinosaur was, I got out the brontosaurus footprint that I drew a few years ago. It measures 3 feet x 4 feet. Look how little my son’s foot looks!
We also read three dinosaur books. Danny and the Dinosaur by Syd Hoff, Time Flies
by Eric Rohmann, and Story of Dinosaurs
by David Eastman. My son liked Danny and the Dinosaur the best because of all of the adventures they have. We liked the pictures in the wordless book Time Flies. The book Story of Dinosaurs
was one I found at the thrift store and it was informative even though it was older.
We had a lot of fun today. Does your preschooler like dinosaurs?
