Today we finished our study of the letter “C” by talking about cows. We started our morning by reading Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type by Doreen Cronin. The children loved saying the “Click, Clack, Moo” parts of the story. I love this book and think it is so funny to imagine the cows plotting how to get electric blankets. The story hit home because our hens appear to be on strike since we haven’t had any eggs in three days. I do think it has been too hot for them to demand electric blankets, though. 🙂
I also read my friend Tracy’s book Tyler the Toddler Feeds the Cows that I posted about a few weeks ago.

After our story we made these cute cows out of two paper plates, some construction paper and a pipe cleaner. I loved how differently each child’s cow turned out. I found the idea at Busy Bee Kids Crafts. I cut out the ears and face, but let the children cut out the black “spots” for the cow. They glued all of the pieces on and drew the facial features.

A few weeks ago my children and I went to a yard sale. My daughter picked up a case that had $1.50 marked on it and it was heavy. We opened it up and were so excited to see a typewriter inside. Of course, we bought it. It was a hit with all four of my children, and I was excited because the ribbon still worked.
I put it out today for free play and showed the children how to use it. They all were as excited as my own children were. It was great to hear them find a letter, say its name and then type it onto the paper.

Later, the children colored their letter “Cc” papers from DLTK-Kids. Then they glued cotton balls to their papers. These pages will go in each child’s alphabet binder.
The children also completed this letter “C” tracing page I created. We practiced writing their names on the back of the paper. If you want to download and print a copy you may do so by clicking here.
We had a great morning and will start our study of the letter “D” on Monday. Have a great weekend.
