Today we finished up our study of the letter “A”, the color red, and apples. We will still talk about red and the letter “A”, but we will focus on the color blue and the letter “B” next week.
When we did our apple painting last week I had the children paint the outside of some file folders to use for the projects shown above. (See post here.) I had seen some really good ideas from 1+1+1=1 and the lapbooks they have featured on their site.
In the picture above I displayed some of the folders from the front and back, and opened one up for you to see what was inside. I put two finger plays/poems that we had recited (See post here.), some paper for the children to practice writing the letter “A”, a mini book and tracing page about the letter “A” (from this site), I also wrote numbers 1-10 and their names. A red apple finished off the inside.
I am anxious to hear what the parents think of these. The children were excited when I showed them their folders this morning. I am going to try to make one for each letter of the alphabet.
We also colored this apple mini book about colors. Kids love books and it was a good way to help them understand color words. They were to color a different color for each page of apples. I found it at this site.
We also recited another finger play that was cute. The children thought the last line was funny.
Little Red Apple
A little red apple grew high up in a tree. (Point up.)
I looked up at it. (Shade eyes and look up.)
It looked down at me. (Shade eyes and look down.)
“Come down, please,” I said. (Motion downward.)
And that little apple fell right on my head. (Tap head.)
We had a lot of fun working on all of the projects for the letter “A” and the color red. Now, I need to make sure I have all of my things ready for next week. I am having so much fun planning all of these learning activities. 🙂
