A couple of weeks ago I decided to pull out all of my foam alphabet stickers for my 5 year old to use to make something with.
He, on his own, started looking for each letter of the alphabet. So, I gave him a large sheet of foam (after we realized a half sheet was too small) and asked him if he wanted to put the letters in ABC order.
I helped my son a little with the spacing of the letters, but he found each letter on his own and put them all in the right order.
When he had found all of the letters I helped him take the paper backing off of each letter and he stuck them on the foam sheet.
He was so proud of himself and couldn’t wait to show his daddy. 🙂 Sometimes the simplest, least thought out in advance activities can provide the most learning.
Before we got all of the extra foam letters put away a certain 2 year old decided to join in the fun.
Thank goodness they both were willing to help me put them away.
I do want to note that my son sang the alphabet song as he was putting the letter stickers in the correct order. It really seemed to help and was his idea.
Letter magnets are another way to help your child learn ABC order. Ours are on our front door right now which is much better than having them get stuck under the fridge.
Have you done any ABC order activities with your preschooler lately?
