A few weeks ago several of the blogs I enjoy reading had posts in which they shared about interviewing their preschoolers. I thought this was a great idea and decided to do the same with my preschooler. He often has a one track mind and I think you will see what I mean after you read his answers.
What is your name? Joshua
How old are you? 5
When is your birthday? I’m 5 and then I’ll be 6.
Who is your mommy? You
What does mommy do? You make the express train go on the track. (No, what do I do around the house?) You clean.
Who is your daddy? Daddy. My daddy is big.
What does daddy do? Daddy is conductor of the express train. (No, what does daddy do for a job?) He goes to work.
Who are your brothers? James and Joseph
Who is your sister? Julia
Who are your friends? My sister and my brothers.
What is your favorite color? Blue
What is your favorite food to eat? French Fries
What is your favorite song? The Polar Express song.
What is your favorite movie? The Polar Express
What is your favorite book? The Polar Express
What are your favorite toys to play with? My trains.
What do you want to be when you grow up? I just want to be little.
Where will you live when you grow up? On the red caboose of the Polar Express train.
I really had fun asking my son these questions. I imagine you picked up on the one “track” mind thing, right? He has loved trains since before he could even say the word train. I am not sure when he will outgrow the love of trains. Maybe he will always love them.
Interviewing your child can be a fun way to spend 5-10 minutes. However, that “fun” is actually really good for building your child’s communication skills. Plus, you might be surprised at your child’s answers and learn a few things about him or her.
