Gifts in a Jar: Taco Seasoning Mix (with Free Printable)

One of our favorite meals to eat is tacos. I have been making my own taco seasoning mix for years which is easy, tasty, and I can control what ingredients I use.

The ready to use packets often contain some less than desirable ingredients. Not only that but with a child who has food allergies it is usually better to make as much as I can myself to limit any allergic reactions.

My mom has been saying that she doesn’t know how I make my own taco seasoning mix, so I decided to remedy that this past Christmas.

Not only did I mix up a batch of taco seasoning mix, but I also made a recipe card and label to go with it.

I have tweaked my recipe over the years and I am pretty happy with it. My recipe makes enough taco mix to fill 2 jelly jars, or a quart jar that is filled to the brim.

If you would like to make some taco seasoning mix as a gift, or just for yourself I am sharing the label and recipe card I created. Simply click the picture or link below to download and print your own copy.

Note: The file is a Word document that you can edit the background and font. To better understand how to do that please watch the video I shared for how to personalized pocket calendars. The process is the same.

Do you have a guacamole recipe that you use? I cannot stand it (even to taste), but my family loves it, so I end up buying those packets or pre-made guacamole because most recipes I have seen list ingredients ‘to taste’. Since I cannot stand to put it in my mouth, that doesn’t work for me. I would love to have a from-scratch recipe instead!

I am not a guacamole connoisseur so I can’t tell you what the right way is but I can tell you what I do. I just use 1 avocado, 2 Tbsp. salsa, 1/8 tsp. salt, and 2 tsp. lemon juice. I either just mash it all up with a fork or use my food processor if I want it to be really smooth. I hope that helps. :)

Thank you! I bought 3 avocado’s this week ($.50 at Walmart right now). I think I’ll use one with your recipe and the 2 others with the seasoning packet I bought (that calls for 2). I suspect that my family will prefer your recipe. I like that your recipe doesn’t call for onions (even though the salsa probably has a bit of onion), because my husband doesn’t like onion in his.

That is a great price for avocados. I need to see if I can get them that inexpensively. I have never bought a seasoning packet. I wonder what is in it. Anyway, you could always use taco sauce or some sauce like that instead of the salsa. Or, just puree it in a food processor and he may never know there are onions in there. ;)
