Last year I planted some strawberries in our garden. We only got a few berries last year but this year the plants are producing quite nicely. It has been nice to enjoy fresh produce in May when normally it is later in June before we get to harvest anything from our garden.

While we haven’t had enough at one time to make a pie or jam, they have been delicious to just eat and on ice cream.
I am hoping to go to a nearby u-pick strawberry patch soon so that I can have some strawberries to freeze, eat, and make strawberry sorbet and jam with.
The rest of our garden is still doing well and, I think, I have it rabbit proofed now. Last week I told you that I had put up rabbit fencing and thought I had the garden protected. Well, Saturday night we found out that there was a small opening that I had missed and a rabbit was in the garden.
I think we got it fixed and hopefully the rabbits will stay out. Now, if I can just keep the birds from doing any damage we should be alright.

Speaking of birds, I put some cheap rubber snakes in the garden as a deterrent and they seem to be doing an alright job. I still need to put up some pie pans to see if they will help, too.

The sugar snap peas are getting taller and some of them are starting to attach to the trellis I made from an old tomato cage.

The zucchini plants are starting to take off. I always like to plant 4 or 5 seeds in each hill so that I can make the most of my space.

The cucumbers are really growing, but they aren’t quite tall enough to start growing up the fence yet.

The lettuce is starting to take off. I was just thinking about something. I wonder why I always plant lettuce in rows. Why have I never just grown it all over the box? OCD? Who knows. 🙂 I am going to try planting it all over next time.

The green beans are continuing to grow nicely.

The corn is shooting up, and my second row has started to sprout up as well.

One of my tomato plants has a couple of blossoms on it. Unfortunately, I lost one of my plants either due to the strong wind we had or from a bird. I’m not sure which.

The cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, and peppers are growing well, but I think I am going to have to make some of my natural plant spray because I noticed some cabbage moths hanging around this morning.

The onions have really grown a lot this week.

I still can’t believe how good my sweet potato plants are looking this week. I am glad I didn’t pull them up after they were viciously attacked by hungry rabbits. 😉

The potatoes in my potato towers are growing nicely, too. I still need to buy more straw (I think I finally found a place to purchase some.) so I can plant the other two towers and add more straw to the two I did plant when the plants get a little taller.

I am really happy with how well our garden has been growing. How is your garden growing?
