We started our study of the sense of sight by talking about colors. We played an I-Spy game in which I said, “I spy with my little eye something that is the color green.” Then the children would take turns guessing what I was thinking of that was green. The child who figured it out said the same phrase only with a different color. We played until everyone had a turn.
Next, I set out 5 colored blocks and asked the children to look carefully at them. Then I had the children close their eyes while I took one block away. I asked them to open their eyes again and determine which block was missing. We played this several times. The last time we played I took all of the blocks away. When they opened their eyes they had a good laugh. 🙂
For a center activity, I set out this color matching activity that I created last summer. This worked perfectly with our story and for our lesson on sight. You can read more about how I made this activity by clicking here.
We had a great morning and will be studying the sense of taste on Tuesday. Check back tomorrow for a frugal visual discrimination center activity idea.
