Felt Hair Clips & Picture Frame Clip Holder

December 20, 2011 By Jackie 7 Comments

I have made several things for my oldest four children lately, but I haven’t made much for my baby girl. With a head full of hair, she has been in need of some hair clips. So, last night I made her some.

Felt Hair Clips and Picture Frame Clip Holder

I used craft felt that I had in my stash along with some alligator clips I had purchased on sale at Hobby Lobby this summer. Armed with my hot glue gun, I set to work.

Pinterest was a great source of ideas, as always. I found a felt bow tutorial from Ruffles & Stuff with two very simple styles. I made a few clips using the rolled felt flowers tutorial from Little Things Bring Smiles. The original tutorial said to use a cd as a template, but that was a little too big. So, I made a smaller circle and liked the results better. I also used a few ideas I had seen here and there.

Most of the time people use grosgrain ribbon to line their clips, but I chose to use felt. I lined each clip with a 4 inch x 1/2 inch (approx.) strip of felt. Here is a video tutorial on how to line an alligator clip.

Felt Hair Clips and Picture Frame Clip Holder Back

Since I got kind of carried away making clips, I decided I better make a way to hold them. I have previously posted on how I turned an oatmeal container into a baby headband holder.

This time I decided to use a picture frame that can double as “wall art”. The Idea Room has a tutorial for a picture frame clip holder that uses fabric and duct tape. I opted to skip the fabric and used my glue gun instead of duct tape.

This was a fun project, and it was frugal because I made it myself using supplies I had on hand.

wow, this is great way to keep hair accessories uncluttered. even for adults. i can really use this with my daughter as well. i use transparent containers to store her hair accessories but it can be chaotic digging for pairs every time. cool project!
