February 2014 at Blessings Overflowing

March 1, 2014 By Jackie 6 Comments

February seemed to fly by in a flurry of basketball games, practices, snow, and more.

The biggest event of the month occurred last week when my family threw a surprise 40th birthday party for me.

Yes, you read that right, I am now the big 4-0! It really doesn’t seem possible but I am enjoying it so far.

Birthday Party

I thought my birthday couldn’t get much better after my husband and kids took me to the movies, out to eat, and to JoAnn Fabrics. However, I was wrong.

My brother, my sister-in-law, and my parents orchestrated the whole surprise party and it was a lot of fun. I was really feeling the love and I am thankful to have had the chance to be reminded of just how much my blessings are overflowing.

Here are a few other pictures from February.

solo contest gold medal

At the beginning of the month Julia received a gold medal at a solo contest. She sang beautifully but I won’t share the video since I was holding a very wiggly Janna. You can imagine how well it turned out. 😉

basketball tournament trophy

James’ 5th grade basketball team won their tourney and I have to admit I was on the edge of my seat the whole game. You would have thought they were playing the sectional finals by the way I was cheering. It was a close one.

silly smile

For a couple of days last week Janna chose to smile like this every time I took her picture. At least I was able to get a good view of her tonsils and teeth. 🙂

conversation heart story

My Joshua is such a sweetie, as evidenced by the conversation heart writing assignment he did on Valentine’s Day. My heart melted when I read it.

field of snow

Snow continued to be a big part of February as it had also been in December and January. We are supposed to get another major winter storm starting tonight through Monday so I guess spring weather just isn’t ready to appear quite yet.

In January I posted a photo almost every day on Instagram but I wasn’t able to keep it up in February. Even so, here are the pictures I did take.

Most of my posts for February were about my 11 week quest for organization with a few crafty posts thrown in.

  • Abbi

Happy Belated Birthday! Sounds like some fun celebrating! I enjoyed reading about your various special moments. It is so fun to hear about other mothers enjoying their children.

    • Jackie

Thank you so much, Abbi! Yes, it was a lot of fun.

  • Katie

Happy late birthday Jackie! 40 must the year for surprise parties. We are going to my SIL’s surprise 40th b-day party this Saturday 🙂

    • Jackie

Thank you, Katie! That’s funny. Last year I threw a surprise 50th anniversary party and a surprise 65th birthday party, so I should have guessed the favor would be returned. 🙂

  • Amy @ Finer Things

Happy birthday! I’m right behind you, celebrating the big 4-0 in November. Pave the way for me, will you? 🙂

    • Jackie

Thank you, Amy! It really wasn’t as big of a deal as I thought it might be. For some reason turning 30 was worse. Maybe because I was afraid our dream of having lots of children might never be realized since I was getting older (ha!) and had only 2 children and 3 miscarriages. My 30’s turned out to be pretty awesome with 3 more children added to our family. I think you know all about having kids in your 30’s, huh? 🙂
