Back in 2007 I made a felt board for my kids using an old picture frame and some felt. It has been a well-used item in our home through the years.

Here’s how you can make one for your kids.
Supplies
- Picture Frame
- Felt
- Scissors
Instructions
1.Choose a picture frame that is the size you want your felt board to be.
I used a frame that was rather large. (It was actually something my husband found that was headed for a dumpster.)
2. Remove the glass.
3. Cut a piece of inexpensive craft felt slightly larger than the cardboard backing of the frame.
4. Place the felt between the frame and the cardboard backing and put it back together.
That’s it!
This project is so simple and can be frugal if you use a frame you already have or check your local thrift store. You could even use an old framed painting because those often don’t have glass in them. If the frame you find doesn’t look very attractive you can always paint it.

To use your felt board you can cut shapes out of felt. You can also order pre-printed felt kits online. Another option is to print pictures and glue a piece of felt or sand paper the back like those pictured above. I covered the printed pictures with contact paper for durability.
Kids love to re-tell stories with felt boards, so make your own and let the frugal fun begin.
