Today we started our study of the letter “D” and the color green. We had a great morning and I wanted to share with you some of the activities my preschoolers completed.

We made ducks from the letter “D” using a tutorial from No Time for Flashcards.

The children colored the letter “D” and then I cut them out. They glued the letters to a piece of green construction paper and added a wiggly eye, a beak, and feathers. I think they turned out so cute.
We sang the song Six Little Ducks using the version from No Time for Flashcards.
Six Little Ducks
Six little ducks that I once knew,
Fat ones, skinny ones, and fair ones too,
But the one little duck with the feather on his back,
He led the others with a quack quack quack!
Quack, quack , quack,
He lead the others with a quack quack quack!

We read the story Do Like a Duck Does!
by Judy Hindley. It is a funny story about a fox who tries to act like a duck, but doesn’t expect the mama duck to be so smart.
Of course, we had to play the game Duck, Duck, Goose. The kids had a ball with this, and it brought back fond memories of playing the game when I was little.

I also had the children trace letter “Dd” papers I had printed from DLTK-Kids. Then, I gave each child a cotton swab and some green paint and asked them to put dots all over their papers. They were having so much fun that when they were finished I gave them a blank piece of paper to do some free painting.
We had a really fun morning learning about the letter “D” and the color green. Come back tomorrow when I will share a fun and frugal idea with you.
