Confessions of a Cloth Diaper Convert eBook Review & Giveaway

June 25, 2013 By Jackie 10 Comments

fitted cloth diapers

I love cloth diapers and have used them on my last three children. I have even sewn most of the diapers they have worn including those in the picture above.

However, I have a confession to make. Janna hasn’t worn a cloth diaper in several months.

The reason is that they stink even though they are clean. I’ve tried several things, but the problem seems to lie in the fact that I have a front-loading, high efficiency washer that uses less water than is necessary to really clean cloth diapers.

I have written a lot about cloth diapers in the past. (See here for all of my cloth diaper related posts.)

While I don’t consider myself to be an expert on all things cloth diapering, I have learned quite a bit in the past 8+ years I have been cloth diapering babies/toddlers.

Even with all of my experience I know there are things I could still learn about cloth diapering, but I just haven’t had time lately to do the research.

Thankfully, I recently got a chance to read the new ebook by Erin of The Humbled Homemaker.

Cloth Diaper Guide

Confessions of a Cloth Diaper Convert (affiliate link) is a wealth of information on every aspect of cloth diapering.

If you have ever contemplated using cloth diapers, have used cloth diapers but stopped for various reasons, or even if you cloth diaper full-time there is something in this book for you.

The book has over 200 pages and is a great reference manual for cloth diapering.

I love that the table of contents has links that allow me to find a topic of interest, click on the link, and then be taken directly to that section of the book. Super handy!

The book has information on everything from reasons to use cloth diapers, the types of cloth diapers available, cloth diapering on the go and at night, and how to build a cloth diaper stash, just to name a few.

Another great thing about this book is that there are pictures of all the different types of cloth diapers with instructions on how to use them as well as the pros and cons of each.

For example, if you want to know what a prefold diaper is check pages 45-49 to find out all sorts of information about them and step by step photos of how to use them.

There is even a handy chart on page 73 that lists each type of diaper and then shows whether they are cheap, stay-dry, caregiver friendly, and/or require a cover.

The best part for me was the fact that I may have found a way to love cloth diapers again and still use my high efficiency washer to clean them. I am going to try adding a large bath towel to cloth diaper loads as well as use more detergent than I have been.

Sounds like a great book, right? How would you like to win a copy for yourself?

There are several options for entering to win through the Rafflecopter widget below.

I started using cloth some with our 4th child while expecting our 5th 🙂 I’m now expecting our 6th 😀 but haven’t used cloth in quite a while… Why? Child #5 had some major growth issues and wore the label ‘Failure to Thrive’ for almost 6 months (and wore the same size clothes for a full year!)… during that time, he was also having numerous dirty diapers & had a rash that wouldn’t go away (ugh, yeast!)… so to save our sanity 😉 we switched back to ‘sposies… #5’s growth issues have now been resolved, mostly (diet & numerous food sensitivities cause a flare from time to time). However, Children #3 & #4 still wet at night, so they sleep in training pants. Child #5 is still fully in diapers & #6 is due in September… my budget needs a break!! I’d love to when this book so we can learn how to battle this yeast issue in the diapers with our front load washer!! 😀

Wow! Thank you so much for sharing your story. I’m sorry you have been through so much with your 5th child, but I’m so glad he or she is doing better. I know all about food sensitivities and allergies and how they can throw you for a loop. My 3rd child has multiple food allergies.

I hope that things work out for you to cloth diaper so that your budget can have a break. Cloth diapers are great for that. Thanks for stopping by and entering to win. I hope you will visit again. 🙂

We started with cloth at 11 months (2 months ago) and we are loving it!

    • Jackie

That’s great, Marla! Congratulations on winning the ebook. I hope you got the ebook by now.

I did get it! Thank you-it’s a great read too. I’ve almost finished and have already recommended it to friends!

That’s great, Marla! I’m so glad you like it.

I read somewhere that front loading washing machines adjust how much water they use by the weight of the load. Most diapers are fairly light, yet they need lots of water to get them fully clean. The blog suggested adding a wet bath towel with the cloth diapers when you start washing them and then rewet the towel when you start the rinse cycle, thus “tricking” the machine into using more water.

    • Jackie

I am definitely going to try that trick, Charlotte. Thanks! 🙂

Great post! We are just about to start cloth diapering our first child. So excited! And a little nervous. It’s a big step since we don’t own our own washer/dryer, but we are so for cloth diapering that we decided to go for it anyway. Wish us luck!

    • Jackie

Congratulations on your little one, Lisa! I will definitely wish you luck with cloth diapering. I have cloth diapered while on the road traveling so I guess it would be a similar concept to not having a washer and dryer. If you wash your diapers somewhere else and then hang them on the line at home that might be a good option. Line drying is so good for cloth diapers.
