I love cloth diapers and have used them on my last three children. I have even sewn most of the diapers they have worn including those in the picture above.
However, I have a confession to make. Janna hasn’t worn a cloth diaper in several months.
The reason is that they stink even though they are clean. I’ve tried several things, but the problem seems to lie in the fact that I have a front-loading, high efficiency washer that uses less water than is necessary to really clean cloth diapers.
I have written a lot about cloth diapers in the past. (See here for all of my cloth diaper related posts.)
While I don’t consider myself to be an expert on all things cloth diapering, I have learned quite a bit in the past 8+ years I have been cloth diapering babies/toddlers.
Even with all of my experience I know there are things I could still learn about cloth diapering, but I just haven’t had time lately to do the research.
Thankfully, I recently got a chance to read the new ebook by Erin of The Humbled Homemaker.
Confessions of a Cloth Diaper Convert (affiliate link) is a wealth of information on every aspect of cloth diapering.
If you have ever contemplated using cloth diapers, have used cloth diapers but stopped for various reasons, or even if you cloth diaper full-time there is something in this book for you.
The book has over 200 pages and is a great reference manual for cloth diapering.
I love that the table of contents has links that allow me to find a topic of interest, click on the link, and then be taken directly to that section of the book. Super handy!
The book has information on everything from reasons to use cloth diapers, the types of cloth diapers available, cloth diapering on the go and at night, and how to build a cloth diaper stash, just to name a few.
Another great thing about this book is that there are pictures of all the different types of cloth diapers with instructions on how to use them as well as the pros and cons of each.
For example, if you want to know what a prefold diaper is check pages 45-49 to find out all sorts of information about them and step by step photos of how to use them.
There is even a handy chart on page 73 that lists each type of diaper and then shows whether they are cheap, stay-dry, caregiver friendly, and/or require a cover.
The best part for me was the fact that I may have found a way to love cloth diapers again and still use my high efficiency washer to clean them. I am going to try adding a large bath towel to cloth diaper loads as well as use more detergent than I have been.
