Colors and Shapes

Color & Shapes: A Book with Fabulous Flaps
This morning we reviewed colors and shapes.  With only four more days of preschool left for the year I want to spend time reviewing things we have learned this year.  We started by reading the book Color & Shapes: A Book with Fabulous Flaps.  This is a simple book about different colored shapes.

Next we made a book of colors and shapes.  I cut pieces of card stock in half (5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″).  I folded three pieces together and stapled them to make a mini book.  Then, the children cut out the different colored shapes and words I had printed for them.  This was good for scissor practice.
Next, I would ask the children to find a specific shape and glue it onto a page in their book.  They also had to find the matching words and glue them underneath.  For example, I asked them to glue the purple circle to the first page and then find the words “purple circle” and glue them underneath.  The only bad part about doing this activity with a group was that they started to get their shapes and words mixed up.  I think next time I would give each child a bowl or some container to put their shapes in.

If you want to download and print the colors and shapes page I made you may do so by clicking the link above.

Later I got out the pattern blocks and we talked about patterns.  I printed the pattern block patterns from Confessions of a Homeschooler.  Some of the children matched the pattern block patterns below the pattern page.

Others put the pattern blocks directly on top of the pattern page.  I covered the pattern pages with contact paper for durability.

Lastly we played colors and shapes bingo.  The children love to play bingo.  We usually play until the cards are covered.

We had a fun morning reviewing our colors and shapes.  Have a great afternoon.
