Clean Kitchen Days: Organize All Cabinets

January 18, 2012 By Jackie 1 Comment

Yesterday I showed you some before and after pictures of my kitchen drawers. It felt good to get them organized again, but I feel even better after completing today’s task.

A few of my kitchen cabinets had been getting more and more disorganized. I am not going to tell you the best way to organize your cabinets, but I will tell you what I did.

First, I determined whether I had things in the best cabinet or not. Once I figured that out, I emptied a few cabinets at a time and cleaned off the shelves. Then I put things back in an orderly manner.

I don’t have a secret formula for organization. I have to work hard to keep everything organized and it is a constant battle. Sure, there are lots of sites with helpful tips and hints on how to stay organized. There are checklists and all sorts of organizational products. Yet, I think the key is this. You have to figure out what works best for you with regards to organization.

For example, this cabinet did have non-perishable food items in it. However, I decided to move them to a new location and use this cabinet for some of my glass dishes. I think the switch will make getting to my glassware easier which is what this process was all about…making my time in the kitchen easier and more efficient.

A few of my cabinets needed new shelf paper. Here is a helpful tip that I learned from my mom. Using wallpaper to line shelves is a much cheaper option than traditional shelf paper if you purchase it on clearance or use leftovers from a wallpaper project. I found a double roll for $1 one time that has lasted me several years.

I decided I would give you another before and after look at a couple of my cabinets. Brace yourself.

The first cabinet wasn’t too shocking, but how about my under the sink cabinet? Yikes? I try to avoid looking in there and you can tell by the before picture. However, I am not afraid to look under the sink now.

Did you clean out any cabinets today? Did you find anything you didn’t know you had? I found that we had 2 grocery bags full of candy in the back of one cabinet. I don’t know how that happened. We didn’t even go trick-or-treating at Halloween. ?

I am happy to have my cabinets more organized. Tomorrow I will be cleaning and organizing my countertops.
