Gift Card in a Jar

My in-laws are very hard to buy for. If they need something, they buy it. So, I opted to get them restaurant gift cards this year as their main gift.

However, I wanted to do something a little more special than just handing them a gift card.

So, I purchased some hard candy and filled two jelly jars with it. Then, I slipped the gift cards into the center of the jars.

I found this idea at Heavenly Homemakers and thought it really was a fun way to give a gift card.

I printed off some Christmas jar labels from Darling Doodles and put them on the lids. (Another idea is to use old Christmas card fronts to cover the lid of the jar which would be a great way to recycle.)

A ribbon tied around the jars was the finishing touch.

My in-laws really seemed pleased with this gift. Plus, my mother-in-law likes to can so she can use the jars to make jelly this summer.

Do you know of any other creative ways to give gift cards?

I did something similar this year, that I found on a pinterest post. I bought Starbucks gift cards, and while I was at the coffee shop I asked if they would give me a couple extra of their clear plastic cups, the kind they use for cold drinks. I put the gift card in there, added some candy, and then wrapped in clear decorative plastic wrap. It turned out really cute! It was a “thank you” gift to my volunteers, so I put a message on it saying “Thanks a ‘latte’ for all your help this year.” Cheesy, but cute too!

That is a great idea, Sara! Cheesy or not, I imagine the recipients were very happy with your creative gift. Thanks for sharing your idea. :)

You mean like the tubes filled with candy type of crackers? Good idea!

No Christmas crackers. With the snap and the motto and the hat and the plastic toy that gets worse every year. Do you have Christmas crackers in America? I know not everywhere has the same traditions. :)

I guess we don’t really have those, at least we don’t personally. I guess what I was referring to was what some people do is to take a toilet paper tube, fill it with candy, and then wrap it up with wrapping paper. Yes, I think there are different traditions everywhere. :)
